PREFIX ‘Sr’

All Fellows and Members of the Institution are eligible to use the prefix ‘Sr’ to their names, subject to the following conditions:-

  • Any Fellow or Member of Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia whose annual subscriptions, dues and levies are not in arrears. This does not exclude those who are not registered with any of the government regulatory boards, or those who are academics at institutions of higher learning.
  • The applicant must be in good standing.

 

DESIGNATION

The designation of members by distinguishing initials or words shall be as follows:-

  • Every Fellow is entitled to use the initial FRISM, (which is an abbreviation for Fellow of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia).
  • Every Member is entitled to use the initial MRISM, (which is an abbreviation for Member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia).
  • Every Associate is entitled to use the initial ARISM, (which is an abbreviation for Associate of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia).
  • Every Graduate is entitled to use the initial GradRISM, (which is an abbreviation for Graduate of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia.
  • Every Technician is entitled to use the initial TechRISM, (which is an abbreviation for Technician of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia.
  • Every Past President is entitled to use after their name the additional initial PPRISM, (which is an abbreviation for Past President of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia).
  • All Fellows and Members are entitled to use before their names the title Sr (which is an abbreviation for Surveyor).

 

Sr Certificate

RISM is the registered proprietor of the certification mark “Sr” and the registration is currently valid and subsisting under the Trademarks Act 2019.

Pursuant to Article 13 of the RISM Constitution, any qualified Fellows or Members of RISM are entitled to use before their names the title “Sr”.

Accordingly, any non-members or defaulters of RISM who use the “Sr” mark to provide the relevant services rendered by surveyors comprising the geomatic and land surveying, quantity surveying, property surveying and building surveying services (“the said services”) in the course of trade without the express written consent of RISM, would be infringing RISM’s certification mark “Sr”.

Pursuant to Article 13 of the RISM Constitution, the General Council may take any actions as may be deemed necessary against any abuse or misuse of the title “Sr”

RISM will not hesitate to instruct its counsel to commence legal action against any infringement against any unauthorised uses of its certification mark “Sr” including without limitation to the said services, in advertising (in any medium or format), on printed matters such as business cards, letterheads or other commercial documents based on its registration of the certification mark “Sr”. Any non-members or defaulters of RISM who falsely apply the certification mark ‘Sr’ to the said services, advertisement or on any business cards, may also be committing offences under the Trademarks Act 2019 and upon conviction, may be liable to significant fines and potential jail term.
