Visit to the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors ( ASAQS) in Johannesburg.
The Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) hosted the group on Friday, 9 October 2015 in their office in Mirand, Johannesburg. Mr. Bert van den Heever, the President of ASAQS, Mr. Larry Feinberg, Executive Director of ASAQS and Mr. Karl Trusler, EduTech Director gave presentation talks to our members.

practices. Provisional chapters of the ASAQS allow members to network with fellow QS professionals within their geographical region. At present there are 9 Chapters including East London/Border. Chapters also hold seminars and other social events, providing practical information and innovative solutions to professional practice questions.
In order to become a registered PMAQS, the applicant must first be registered and in good standing with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) as a PrQS. SACQSP is a regulatory body constituted by an Act of Parliament – Act 49 of 2000.
EduTech’s main role is to give technical support and education. It is responsible for maintaining the Associations comprehensive library of information and documentation and ensures that this information remains relevant and up to date. EduTech has focused on the compilation and delivery of bespoke CPD courses, seminars and events for ASAQS members .Mandated by SACQSP, the ASAQS provides events that members can attend to keep their CPD portfolio up to date. This is done through the Chapters, relevant tertiary institutions as well as a web-based online service called “GoLearning” facility.
Valued at R5-billion, the 115 000m² Mall of Africa project will be the largest shopping mall ever built in South Africa in a single phase. The so-called “super-regional” mall will be the heart of the Waterfall City development, located in Midrand between South Africa’s administrative capital, Pretoria, and its economic capital, Johannesburg. RISM delegation was very impressed by Atterbury’s mammoth development at Waterfall Estate and wishes to thank ASAQS, WBHO and Mr. Norval Wentzel Steinberg, who made a visit to the Mall of Africa site possible.
Our delegation was also impressed by the new training centre of the ASAQS and the work that EduTech does for their members. The possibility of a reciprocity agreement between the two organizations will receive further attention in future. ASAQS is also very interested to share and exchange information on Building Information Modelling (BIM) and produce life-cycle costings with RISM.
Visit to RICS office in Capetown.
RICS in South Africa hosted RISM delegation on 14 October in Smith Tabata Buchanan Boyes Attorney’s office. RICS’s regional headquarters is in Dubai and there are offices in South Africa.
